The re-provision of new buildings
for mental health services included a new mental health
unit, and continuing care and day units. The design focused
on providing a high quality environment for the patients.
Key elements included high levels of day lighting, safe
access to internal and external gardens and wandering
routes both indoors and out of doors.
Our understanding that it is in mental health units that
the built environment and the provision of access to external
spaces has the most impact on patients enabled us to contribute
to a very patient-friendly design, while also ensuring
that the logistics of the complex were efficient and safe.
