The submission completed for Jarvis Projects included the preparation of a development control plan and designs for a new block housing surgical and gynaecological wards, physiotherapy, an education and training centre, catering, staff dining and facility management. The wards formed the major component of the new build development. Different options were developed for the wards for evaluation regarding their flexibility, efficient use of staff, efficient use of space, infection control issues, and the quality of the environment for patients. The latter took account of daylight, views out of the windows, internal planting, standards of privacy and dignity for patients, and the provision of choice. The ward design options were evaluated with the staff.
